Metro’s response to clinic complaints

There are other selected areas in Ekurhuleni where Eskom has a licence to provide electricity.

The letter writer protested the unsatisfactory treatment of patients and lack of medication at the Brakpan Clinic.

A portion of the letter reads: My biggest concern, however, is not the total chaos, but the fact that you stand from one queue to the next and the next and the next and eventually you reach the point where you are to get your medication, only to be told that there is no stock.

According to metro spokesperson Themba Gadebe, there is no medication out of stock at the Brakpan Clinic.

“There are drugs that were previously obtainable without a prescription, but are now scheduled as prescription drugs,” he said.

“In cases where medication needs a prescription, a patient would be given a return date while the script is forwarded to the pharmacy for the medication to be made available on the return date.”

He explained that there are officials from the Expanded Civil Works Programme who assist at the reception on a daily basis at the facility.

“It is not clear how the chaos that reportedly took place on the day the complainant visited the facility happened,” said Gadebe.

“The clinic is small and cannot accommodate all services in the morning, therefore, some clients have to stand.”

He added that a request for a veranda for the 2018/19 financial year is being considered.
