Sassa beneficiaries urged to get new cards

Transactions have largely taken place at merchants through Point of Sale devices and over the counter at post office outlets.

The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) has been inundated with enquiries from beneficiaries indicating that they still have money on their old Sassa cards and that they want to move to the new gold Sassa cards.

Sassa has requested that these beneficiaries collect their remaining social grant money on the old Sassa card by September 2018.

This is in line with the Constitutional Court ruling that provided Sassa with a six-month contract extension period for phasing in the South African Post Office and phasing out Cash Paymaster Services.

When receiving the new card, beneficiaries are urged to keep their old card until the social grant money reflects on the new card.

This is especially applicable to beneficiaries who will replace their cards after August 20.

It is very important for all beneficiaries using the old Sassa card to swap their cards by the end of September.

Sassa has opened its offices on Saturdays to cater to beneficiaries who are not able to visit the offices during the week.

Beneficiaries are urged to change their old cards to the new gold cards as soon as possible.
